WhatsApp API guide · Part 11 of 12. New here? Start with Part 1: Get your API key.

A customer asks about a product. You want to send a short hello, a photo, the PDF brochure and your shop location. Earlier, that meant four separate API calls. Now you can send all of them together: with one click in the API Tester, or with one link from your software.

A greeting, a product photo, a PDF brochure and a shop location arriving one after another on the customer's phone
One request, four messages, in the order you chose.

Two ways to put things together

What you wantUse
A photo (or video or PDF) on top of your text, with a small line at the bottom and something to tap — all in one WhatsApp messageOne rich message: the Poster with buttons page
Different things that cannot go in one message: text + photo + PDF + location + contact card…Several messages at once (up to 10)

Several messages at once in the API Tester

  1. Open the API Tester. Your key should show in step 1, Your API key.
  2. In the left menu, under Send a message, click Several messages at once. It starts with two messages: Text and Photo.
  3. Type the customer's number once, in Send to (WhatsApp number). All messages go to this number.
  4. Click a message card to open it. Under What do you want to send?, choose its type (Text, Photo, PDF / Document, Template, or More message types) and fill it in. Closed cards show a one-line summary.
  5. Click + Add another message for more. It tells you how many more you can add (up to 10 in all). Use the up and down arrows to change the order, or the bin to remove a message. (On a phone these are the buttons Move up, Move down and Remove.)
  6. Check the phone on the right. How it looks on the phone shows all your messages in order, numbered 1, 2, 3. The line under the button says Ready. Press Send now to send all 3 messages. Click Send now.
Your messages with three message cards in the API Tester: Text, Photo (open) and PDF / Document, and the Add another message button, with the phone preview of all three messages on the right
Each message has its own card. Closed cards show a one-line summary; the phone preview shows all of them in order.

In the fold Link & code for your software, Your link now has m1_…, m2_… parts: one link for all the messages.

Already on a page like Text or Photo? The Add another message button under your message brings you here, with your message as Message 1.

The answer under Send now shows one row for every message, each with its own delivery ticks:

The answer for three messages: 2 of 3 sent, message 2 failed with What to do and a Fix message 2 button, messages 1 and 3 sent with their ticks
Green means sent. If one message has a problem, its row tells you why, and the others still go.

If one message fails, click Fix message …, correct it and press Send now again (the line under the button then says Press Send now to send only message 2.). The messages that already went show Sent ✓ on their cards and are not sent again. Only the fixed one goes.

The link: number each message

Put m1_ in front of every part of message 1, m2_ in front of message 2, and so on. Inside each message you use the same names as a normal send (Parts 2–6). Your key and the customer's number stay at the start, without a number.

One link with four numbered messages: text, photo, PDF and location
m1_ to m10_. The messages arrive in this order.

For developers: send a JSON list

From a server it is neater to POST a JSON body with a messages list. (In the tester, turn on Developer view to get this code with your own values.)

curl -X POST https://epublictouch.com/app/api/send/whatsapp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "recipient": "919876543210",
    "messages": [
      { "type": "text", "message": "Hi Priya, here are the details of the LED TV 43 inch." },
      { "type": "image", "media_url": "https://yoursite.com/tv.jpg", "message": "Diwali price: Rs 28,990" },
      { "type": "document", "document_url": "https://yoursite.com/brochure.pdf", "document_name": "LED-TV-43-Brochure.pdf" },
      { "type": "location", "latitude": "26.9124", "longitude": "75.7873", "location_name": "Sharma Electronics" }
    ]
  }'

The answer has one entry per message in data.items:

{
  "status": 200,
  "result": "success",
  "message": "All 4 messages sent to WhatsApp.",
  "data": {
    "multi": true, "count": 4, "sent": 4, "failed": 0,
    "items": [
      { "index": 1, "type": "text", "result": "success", "messageId": "wamid.HBgM..." },
      { "index": 2, "type": "image", "result": "success", "messageId": "wamid.HBgM..." },
      ...
    ]
  }
}

Rules to know

  • Up to 10 messages in one request.
  • Everything is checked first. If message 3 has a mistake (for example a missing photo link), nothing is sent and the answer says "Message 3: …". Fix it and send again.
  • They arrive in order, a second or two apart. Photos and PDFs get a little extra time so they do not jump ahead.
  • If WhatsApp refuses one message after sending has started, the others still go. The answer is then "result": "partial" and tells you which one failed. A serious problem (for example a payment problem on your WhatsApp account) stops the rest; they show as not_sent.
  • The 24-hour rule applies to every message that is not a template. You can mix templates in, for example a template first and then nothing else. For a new customer, use templates only.
  • Duplicate protection works per message. Opening the same link twice within 2 minutes does not send anything twice; a message that failed earlier is tried again.
  • Each message counts toward your key's daily limit. Four messages = four.

One rich message: poster + text + buttons

Sometimes you do not need four messages. One message can carry a photo, video or PDF on top, your text, a small line at the bottom and up to 3 reply buttons:

One WhatsApp message with a photo on top, text, a footer and three reply buttons
All of this is one single message.

In the API Tester, click Poster with buttons in the left menu (under Send a message):

  1. In Poster, click Upload photo / video / PDF, or paste a link.
  2. Type Your text and, if you like, the Small text at the bottom.
  3. Under What can the customer tap?, choose Reply buttons and type up to 3 button names. (Or choose Website link, WhatsApp call, Form or Nothing.)
  4. Check How it looks on the phone on the right and click Send now.
The Poster with buttons page: Poster, Your text, Small text at the bottom, Reply buttons chosen and three buttons on the left, and the phone preview on the right
Poster with buttons: pick a poster, write your text, choose what the customer can tap, and check the phone.

In a link it looks like this:

...&type=buttons
&media_url=https://yoursite.com/ac-offer.jpg
&message=Yes! 30% off on ACs till 31 October. Would you like a free home demo?
&footer=Sharma Electronics · Reply with one tap
&buttons=Yes, book a demo|Call me|Send price list
One kind of tap per message. WhatsApp allows reply buttons, or one website link, or one WhatsApp call button, or one form button. With WhatsApp call or Form, the page sends 2 messages: first the poster with your text, then the button. Want reply buttons + a website link + a "Call now" number + a form all together? Make it once as an approved Template in your panel (Templates → Create New Template), then send it from the Template page (Part 3).

No link for your photo? Upload it

Every photo, video or PDF box in the tester starts with an upload button (Upload photo, Upload file …), and the link box comes after it. Pick the file from your computer or phone. It is saved on E-Public Touch and the link is filled in for you.

The Upload a file page in the left menu (under Files) does the same in two clicks: click Choose a file in the middle and pick your file, then press the gold Upload now in the dark panel. You get Your file's link with Copy link, and a shortcut like Use it in PDF / Document that opens the right page with the link filled in. (Part 4 lists the file types and sizes.)

The Upload a file page after Upload now: Your file's link with Copy link and Use it in PDF / Document in the middle, and the green answer Uploaded on the right
The Upload a file page after Upload now: copy the link, or use it straight away.

Ready-made from your panel

In your panel → WhatsApp API → Step 3 — Try it, the 16 buttons under Open the tester ready for… open the tester with your key and the right message type already chosen — including Poster with buttons, Form and Several messages at once. Above them, the card Set up with AI (no coding) opens the Set up with AI page (Part 12).

Step 3 in the panel: Open API Tester, the Set up with AI no-coding card and 16 buttons under Open the tester ready for
One click opens the tester ready for that type, with your key filled in.

What next?

You now know every message type. But how do you connect all this to your own website, Google Sheet or form if you cannot write code? Part 12 shows how ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini can set it up for you, step by step, with the Set up with AI page.
