GST (Goods and Services Tax) is the single tax that applies to almost every sale of goods and services in India. If your business is registered under GST, you collect this tax from your customer on every invoice and pass it on to the government. Most small businesses in India deal with four main rates — 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% — and the most common one for services is 18%. Our team built this free calculator so you can get the exact tax split in seconds, without opening a spreadsheet or doing the maths by hand.
Inclusive vs exclusive pricing — the mistake we see most often. An exclusive price means tax is added on top: a ₹10,000 service at 18% GST becomes ₹11,800 on the final bill. An inclusive price already has the tax inside: if you tell a customer "₹11,800 all included", your real earning is ₹10,000 and ₹1,800 goes as tax. Many small businesses quote an inclusive price but forget to remove the GST when counting profit — and quietly lose 15–18% of their margin. Use the Remove GST mode here to see your true base amount before you fix any price.
Which rate applies to common services? Digital marketing, advertising, social media management, website design and most agency services are charged at 18% GST. The same 18% rate covers IT services, telecom and most professional services. Restaurant food is usually 5%, business-class travel and works contracts often fall at 12%, while luxury items like big cars sit at 28%. When we send a proposal at E-Public Touch, the 18% GST line is always shown clearly — and we suggest every business does the same, because a clear tax line builds trust and avoids payment disputes later.
One more tip: on every same-state invoice, show CGST and SGST as two separate lines (each is half of the total GST). For customers in another state, show one IGST line at the full rate. This calculator gives you both halves ready-made, formatted in the Indian number system, so your invoices always look professional.
Digital marketing, advertising and most agency services are charged at 18% GST in India. So if a service costs Rs. 10,000, the GST is Rs. 1,800 and the final invoice is Rs. 11,800.
An exclusive price does not contain GST yet, so tax is added on top of it. An inclusive price already contains GST inside it, so you remove the tax to find the base amount. Use the Add GST mode for exclusive prices and the Remove GST mode for inclusive prices.
When you sell within the same state, the GST amount is shared equally between the central government (CGST) and the state government (SGST). For example, 18% GST becomes 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. For sales between two states, the full rate is charged as one tax called IGST.
